Bruneau Sand Dunes May 16-18
PLEASE READ the entire event description before you RSVP! Since we’ve moved away from MeetUp, our RSVP process has changed.
Join us for our annual spring float tube trip to the Bruneau Sand Dunes! Friday night most of us fish the pond at Bruneau, behind the observatory. We will decide then if we want to fish Cove Arm or Crane Falls on Saturday. If you prefer to fish a different pond than the majority vote, please feel free.
Saturday we will be leaving Eagle Cove Campground as early as possible, 8:00 am at the latest. If coming up for the day, please try and meet us before we head out to fish. If you can’t make it that early, check Crane Falls and Cove Arm.
Besides fishing there’s bicycling, hiking, dune hiking, and the Observatory. A schedule of events/shows is listed on the Pavilion bulletin board.

There are a couple different lodging options for this trip:
• Orion Cabin. WFFI has reserved the Orion cabin for this event. There are 3 beds available (1 futon and 1 bunk bed). The cost per bed is $64 for both nights. If fewer than 3 people sign up for a bed in the cabin, the cost will be higher. Since the club paid for the cabin and we are collecting money for each bed, our WFFI Refund Policy applies. Please take the time to review if BEFORE you register and pay!
• Camping. We camp in the Eagle Cove and Broken Wheel area, and each person is responsible for their own reservation. Each site is allowed 2 tents, but vehicles must park by the restroom/shower area, which is close by. If you are tenting with someone who has a reserved RV site, it’s customary to pay $5.00 per night to your RV host/WFFI member to help offset their park registration. There is a NEW RESERVATION system this year, so make campground reservations SOON here – https://getoutside.idaho.gov/bruneau-dunes
• Day trippers: You’re welcome to come join us for the day! Please let us know what day you plan to come up.
What you’ll need:
• Food, water, gear etc you’ll need for the weekend
• ID Fishing License
• Flies: You’ll find trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and carp in waters we’re fishing. Top water popper flies are always great for bass. Bluegill seem to eat anything as long as it’s small enough; small dry flies and poppers are great. Wooly Buggers and other streamers are effective as are leeches and chironomids.
• Equipment and Clothing: This is a float tube trip so you will need a float tube, pump, waders w/belt, boots, fins, personal floatation device, whistle, rod, reel, flies, net, foot warmers and anything else as far as fishing goes. Be sure that you bring warm and light clothes including polarized sunglasses and hat. Bring a waterproof jacket or rain poncho. Dress in layers (bring your long underwear) and bring plenty of warm clothing. The weather there can change in a heartbeat from sunny to rain to snow to wind, so plan for all of it. Never trust Mother Nature…..plan for everything.
How to RSVP for this trip:
Whether you are reserving a bed, camping, or day tripping, you’ll need to do TWO things:
• Use the RSVP form below
AND
• Book a “ticket” right below the RSVP form; be sure to indicate if you’ll be staying at the motel, camping, or day tripping. You only need to hit the Submit button once! It does NOT give you a conformation message; you WILL be able to see your booking in your My Events page. If you plan to reserve a bed in the cabin, there are 3 “bed” tickets available.
We have set up a Member Forum to discuss the details of our events. Topics have already been set up. Bruneau Sand Dunes trip discussion is HERE.
