Duck Valley Reservation April 25-27
PLEASE READ the entire event description before you RSVP! Since we’ve moved away from MeetUp, our RSVP process has changed.
Join us for our annual spring float tube trip to the Duck Valley Reservation! Duck Valley is a truly unique fishery we have the privilege of fishing by special permit from the Shoshone-Paiute tribes. Consisting of 3 different reservoirs (Mountain View, Sheep Creek, and Lake Billy Shaw), this area is known for its big trout.
All the details about fishing this area can be found here: https://shopaitribes.org/spfish/fishing.html.
You don’t need an ID fishing license to fish on the reservation but you WILL need a Sho-Pai fishing permit. The cost is $25 per day or $150 per year (annual passes include free dry camping) and covers all three lakes. You’ll likely need to plan ahead to get your permit as outlets selling them are limited. Here in the Treasure Valley they are sold at Cabela’s and Idaho Angler. They can also be purchased on the reservation at the Ace Hardware but the hours are limited to 7:30am-6pm M-F and 8am -4pm Saturday. With any of these outlets, it’s a good idea to call first to verify. The Sho-Pai website says Sportsman’s sells permits but they no longer sell them.
There are a couple different lodging options for this trip:
• Arrowhead Motel. WFFI has reserved all 8 rooms and we have a total of 16 beds available. The rates are $95 per person which covers two nights (based on double occupancy/room rate is $190 for two people for the two nights). If all the beds don’t fill, you will have the option to have the room to yourself at the $190 room rate. Please note! You and your roommate are responsible for paying the motel directly for your stay. Sign ups for motel rooms will be open till April 22nd since we will need to cancel any rooms we won’t be using.
• Camping. There are a few camping options available. Both Mountain View and Sheep Creek both have campsites with electrical hookups. There is also an abundance of dry camping; essentially wherever you can park your vehicle that isn’t a numbered electrical hook-up campsite is open for dry camping. There are toilets in the campground area. There is no potable water, so please bring enough for your needs. You will need to make a camping reservation here: https://app.fireflyreservations.com/reserve/property/DuckValleyIndianReservation or you can call the office at (208) 759-3246; Toll Free: (800) 761-9133. FYI, most of our group who camps will be at Mountain View.
• Day trippers: You’re welcome to come join us for the day! It’s about a 2 to 2.5 hour drive. Please let us know what day you plan to come up.
What you’ll need:
• Food, water, etc you’ll need for the weekend
• Flies: Sheep Ck. Special, Nymphs, Chironomids, dark Woolly Buggers with flash, Zug Bugs, (streamers), Chucker Bugger, balanced leeches, Marv’s Fly; also check the Cabela’s list or Idaho Anglers website for the list of what is being used at different waters.
• Equipment and Clothing: This is a float tube trip so you will need a float tube, pump, waders w/belt, boots, fins, personal floatation device, whistle, rod, reel, flies, net, foot warmers and anything else as far as fishing goes. Be sure that you bring warm and light clothes including polarized sunglasses and hat. Bring a waterproof jacket or rain poncho. Dress in layers (bring your long underwear) and bring plenty of warm clothing. The weather there can change in a heartbeat from sunny to rain to snow to wind, so plan for all of it. Never trust Mother Nature…..plan for everything.
How to RSVP for this trip:
Whether you are reserving a bed, camping, or day tripping, you’ll need to do TWO things:
• Use the RSVP form below
AND
• Book a “ticket” right below the RSVP form. Be sure to indicate if you’ll be staying at the motel, camping, or day tripping. You only need to hit the Submit button once! It does NOT give you a conformation message; you WILL be able to see your booking in your My Events page. If you plan to reserve a bed at the motel, there are 16 “bed” tickets available. When you book your ticket, please indicate who you’d prefer to room with. Remember, you and your roommate will pay the motel directly.
We have set up a Member Forum to discuss the details of our events. Topics have already been set up. Duck Valley discussion is HERE.
If you’re new to float tubing, we highly recommend you attend our intro to float tubes and float tube safety program at our March Meeting. We also highly recommend that you attend our March and April day trips to get some experience on the water before you head to Duck Valley. Duck Valley can get VERY windy, which can be really intimidating if you’re new to tubing.
By registering for and attending this event, you are acknowledging that you have read and agree to our waiver of liability and hold harmless agreement. Our waiver can be found HERE. Thanks in advance for taking the time to review it.
