Owyhee River September 4-7

PLEASE READ the entire event description before you RSVP!  Since we’ve moved away from MeetUp, our RSVP process has changed.

We’re excited to announce our upcoming Women’s Fly Fishing Weekend on the Owyhee River, taking place downstream of the dam and near Lake Owyhee State Park in Oregon this early September! This is a chance to enjoy breathtaking high-desert scenery, target some of the region’s most selective brown trout, and unwind in great company.  The club has pre-paid for the same AirBnB house on PRIVATE ACCESS water that we stayed in last year.
The cost for this 3-night stay is $208 per bed (12 beds available). First come, first select.
*Please note, IF we do not fill the beds, there may be an additional cost to participating members.
IF you can only come for 1 – 2 nights, you will still be charged the $208, but you have the option of ‘selling’ your extra nights to another club member.  We will have a Facebook Event page where you can reach out to others to coordinate for this.  (See cancellation and refund policy posted on the WFFI.club website for more details.)
Daytrippers are welcome, but we cannot have more than 16 people at the house.
🐟 What to Expect on the Water:
Early September is an excellent time to fish the Owyhee. The river typically runs clear and low this time of year, offering prime sight-fishing conditions. The browns here are smart and spooky—perfect for refining your presentation and stealth game. Rainbows love hanging out behind rocks in the riffles and I hear there are some very productive spots near the powerlines!
🪰 Productive Fly Patterns:
This time of year, you’ll want to come prepared with:
  • Terrestrials: Beetles, ants, and especially hoppers (yellow and tan) are often irresistible to big browns and can be productive when there is hopper activity mid to late afternoon.
  • Baetis (Blue-Winged Olives): Especially on overcast afternoons.
  • PMDs: Still hatching in early September, especially mid-morning to early afternoon.
  • Midges and Tricos: Early morning risers love these.
  • ☀️ Weather Conditions:
Expect warm days (highs in the 70s–80s °F) and cooler mornings and evenings (lows in the 40s–50s °F). Be ready for variable conditions:
  • Light layers for the temperature swing
  • Wading gear for cold water
  • Sun protection (hat, long sleeves, sunscreen)
  • A windbreaker or light rain jacket—just in case
🎫 Don’t Forget:
An Oregon fishing license is required! You can purchase one online at Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife.
This is a great opportunity to test your skills and connect with others who love the water as much as you do. Whether you’re hiking into hidden bends or kicking back after a rewarding day of casting, the Owyhee never disappoints.
Details: Bring all of your own food, water, beverages, sunscreen, toiletries, etc.  There are not any stores or restaurants nearby, so stock up in Boise before you head out and fill up with gas.  There are linens on the beds and towels in the bathrooms. There is a washer and dryer.  There is a full kitchen, coffee maker, plates, utensils, and cooking supplies. With 12-16 ladies, space in the fridge will be tight, so please pack cold items sparingly.  Amy will bring a large cooler with ice for beverages to make more space.

How to RSVP for this trip:
You’ll need to do TWO things:

•  Use the RSVP form below

AND

•  Book a “ticket” right below the RSVP form.  This is where you’ll pay the trip fee.  You only need to hit the Submit button once!  It does NOT give you a conformation message; you WILL be able to see your booking in your My Events page.

After you pay, you may get a website “critical error” message.  This is a glitch we’re working on.  It usually doesn’t affect your booking, but please check your inbox and your My Events page to ensure your payment was received.

We set up a Member Forum to discuss the details of our events.
