Silver Creek June 13-15

PLEASE READ the entire event description before you RSVP!  Since we’ve moved away from MeetUp, our RSVP process has changed.

We’re heading to the infamous Silver Creek for a weekend of fishing!  We’re hoping to hit the brown drake hatch, but that hatch is dependent largely on temperature.  Regardless, even if the hatch doesn’t happen, this is still an amazing brown trout and rainbow trout fishery.  Some members will choose to hire a guide; others just DIY.  You can float tube and walk-and-wade.

Much of Silver Creek is bordered by private land, and access is restricted.  Idaho F&G has established access points at several locations.
•  The Nature Conservancy is located at the upper end of Silver Creek and has provided access to anglers.  Access is restricted to specific entry points, and you must register electronically when you arrive when fishing The NC.  For a map and more information go to Nature Conservancy Silver Creek Preserve.
•  Kilpatrick Bridge (Kilpatrick Pond; this is primarily a float tube area)
•  Highway 20 Bridge
•  F&G West Access (Silver Creek West/The Willows)
•  F&G East Access (Point of Rocks)
•  F&G Picabo Access

In addition to wading, floating Silver Creek is a great way to fish the creek. However, be aware that Idaho Fish & Game regulations REQUIRE that you use a float tube– one that places you down in the water (as opposed to fishing from a kayak, SUP, or pontoon).  Most people use a “donut” style round float tube, but a u-shaped float tube also works just fine and is permissible.  The creek can be busy (especially if the brown drake hatch happens), so good etiquette and consideration to fellow anglers is always appreciated.  Please be aware that float tubing in the Nature Conservancy is restricted to certain areas; please do your research!

There are also other areas to fish.  The Big Wood River is close by as is Magic Reservoir.

IDFG Fishing Planner – Silver Creek

There are many different lodging options for this trip:
•  Primitive Camping.  There are lots of camping options.  There’s free dispersed camping at Silver Creek West, Point of Rocks, and the Hayspur Fish Hatchery.  These options all have pit toilets.  Silver Creek West and Point of Rocks have no water but the Hatchery does have water available.
RV Camping.  Picabo Angler runs an RV park with full hookups.  Reservations can be made here: https://picaboangler.com/places-to-stay/
•  Hotels/AirBNB.  There are hotel options in Fairview, Bellevue, Hailey, and Ketchum.  There are also some VRBO/Airbnb options in the neighboring areas.  Picabo Angler operates a couple of rental cabins.
•  Day trippers: You’re welcome to come join us for the day!  Please let us know what day you plan to come up.

What you’ll need:
•  Food, water, gear etc you’ll need for the weekend
•  ID Fishing License
•  Flies:  Picabo Angler is a GREAT resource; check their website or stop  by their shop for their fly recommendations.
•  Equipment and Clothing:  Your equipment will vary based on whether you’ll be floating or wading.  You will need a float tube, pump, fins, personal floatation device, and whistle (if floating), waders w/belt, boots, rod, reel, flies, net, and anything else as far as fishing goes.  The weather is typically warm at Silver this time of year, but be sure to check the weather and come prepared.  The weather there can change in a heartbeat, so plan for all of it.  Never trust Mother Nature…..plan for everything.  Be sure to pack bug spray!  It can be VERY buggy at Silver.
