New Meadows/McCall Fishing Outing
This outing offers opportunities for river and lake fishing and float tubing. If you’d like to try float tubing but don’t have one, let me (Lisa Szentes – 208-866-2718) know. There are WFFI members who are happy to lend or share a float tube, PFD, fins, and other gear.
Boise Valley Fly Fishers is also having an outing in the McCall area the same weekend. We have been invited to attend a couple of their gatherings, and we have scheduled a joint potluck for Saturday evening.
Attendees can stay at Lisa’s cabin near New Meadows or bring a trailer or tent.
SCHEDULE
Thursday 9/19 – Anyone who wants to come Thursday is welcome to attend a BVFF earlybird gathering at 6 pm (place TBD) where they will provide info on places to fish.
Friday 9/20 – BVFF is hosting a gathering at Wyndham Timeshare at 6pm. 805 Sorrel Ct, patio area. Mike McLean will give info on various lakes and conditions.
Saturday 8/28 – Fish wherever you choose. We can discuss options.
Around 5 pm we will meet with BVFF for a potluck at Meadowcreek Lake. It is a well-stocked lake at the entrance of Meadowcreek Development off Hwy 93 just north of New Meadows. It can be fished from the bank or by tube. Easy parking and access. We will have our potluck there and whoever wants to fish can do so before, during or after the potluck.
FOOD
Thursday & Friday evening – We have a grill and full kitchen. Bring what you want for your meals on those days.
Saturday – bring what you want for Saturday breakfast, lunch, snacks. We’ll have a potluck with BVFF as noted above. I’ll make a crockpot of pulled pork, please bring a side and a chair.
Sunday breakfast – We can do a breakfast burrito bar. I’ll make an egg scramble and have sides (cheese, guacamole, salsa, tortillas).
If you would like to bring something to add to the burrito bar that’s fine.
Fruit would be welcome.
I’ll have coffee and tea available.
Text me with what you plan to bring for the potluck and Sunday breakfast bar. Also, let me know when you think you’ll arrive.
GENERAL FISHING INFO
Closest lakes to the cabin are Goose Lake and Brundage Reservoir. Both have drive-up access. You can get there via Hwy 55 to Brundage Rd. Follow Brundage Rd past the entrance to the ski area.
For those who want to hike into a lake, there are several options for short hikes. We can discuss if there is interest.
Another option is to fish the Payette River south of McCall. Several good places to get access.
GEAR
Waders, rod/reel, float tube, fins for lake fishing. For lake fishing, a weighted line is a good idea, or weighted leader if you don’t have weighted line. Also, there could be hatches happening, in which case you might be a able to surface fish (so will need to convert to a floating line).
Lake fishing flies – woolly buggers, stayner ducktail, leeches, any kind of nymph – weighted and unweighted.
River fishing flies – buggers, leeches, nymphs, dry caddis, mayflies, midges
